The Deutz differential side gear receives the rear wheel half-shaft. With worn teeth or splines, the differential becomes noisy and develops play, until it breaks.

Fitting it correctly
Check the pinion gears, their shaft and the thrust washers at the same time. Refit the parts clean and oiled, then check the differential backlash. Finally, refill the axle with fresh oil.
