The MF 440 Xtra clutch cover transmits engine power to the gearbox. It is a dual clutch: it controls both the drive and the PTO. A tired clutch cover makes the clutch slip or the pedal heavy.
Compatible models: Massey Ferguson 283, 290, 297, 299, 425, 435, 440 Xtra, 445, 460 and 465.

The MF 440 Xtra clutch cover controls both the drive and the PTO. As replacing it means splitting the tractor, it is better to plan everything before opening up.
Identifying your MF 440 Xtra clutch cover
It is a 330 / 250 mm dual clutch with 12 springs. It also fits the MF 283 to 465 of the same generation. Note the part number stamped on the old clutch cover, then compare the diameters. If in doubt, send us a photo from the contact page.
Replacing it in one go
Once the tractor is split, check the flywheel, both discs and the release bearing. Then centre the discs with a suitable tool before tightening the clutch cover gradually, in a cross pattern. Finally, adjust the clutch and PTO free play according to the Massey Ferguson workshop manual.
